A Nice Change. July 20, 2017 Reviewer: Jin J. X from Springfield, MO United States   I play jazz.  I dont typically use heavy distortion though I use a clean boost to improvise over loops.  Already use the DS 1 pro mod which is all I need.  Still during a recent pedal search I tried the SD1 stock & liked it... for solo looping.  With a group it did not have the headroom & would clip.  Still had potential.  Instead of doing the silver I did the 808 vintage mod.  Thought it'd be nice to have a boost that's more airy and "watery".  I opted for symmetrical clipping so its smoother than the stock SD 1.  I like it.  I have it paired up with the DS 1 pro mod (think Jeminie Distortion).  Essentially the way I have them, they're very similar though I like having two options for lead boosts.  Maybe one day I'll rock it with the silver mod though for now, I like it.  Thank you, AM. Edit: had to to give this rascal all five stars.  Amazing how an already nice sounding SD-1 sounds with the 808 mod.  Brilliant. Was this review helpful to you?

Analog Man Rules. February 24, 2016 Reviewer: Jason Abraham Roberts from Los Angeles, CA United States   I had Mike do his Silver mod on my SD1 about 15 years ago and that exact pedal still remains my go to for every gig I do whether it be with Norah Jones, Bob Weir or Daniel Johnston. I now own 3 of them (as well as a Silver TS9) and couldn't be more happy with how naturally musical the tone is that they provide. By using the gain knob you can go from an almost transparent boost to a fairly heavy overdrive without losing any of your picking nuances. On top of that, Mike provides extremely quick and friendly customer service. You can tell that he really is proud of his work and will do his best to make you proud of your tone! Thank you Mike!! Sd-1/808 silver mod November 6, 2012 Reviewer: van ommeren from haarlem, noord-holland Netherlands   I recently bought the sd-1/808 silver mod. If you're looking for a tubescreamer with a crispy clean bass and singing highs this is the pedal. I was always a huge fan of tubescreamer but I found them sometime way to gritty and dark sounding. IMO the sd-1 is a hybrid between a ts-808 and a bd-2(the modded ones) I mainly use this pedal as a clean boost( I like boosts with some bottom end) or as my main gain channel. When using the pedal as gain channel is boost it with my mxr dyna comp with high output an little compression. the lead sound is smooth, transparent and rocking. Full chords still sound clear to me. Boss SD-1 w/Frog mod October 21, 2011 Reviewer: Farhad Firouzabadian from Jacksonville, FL United States   This is an unbelieveable sounding pedal. I run it as a clean boost, as my rig is already dirty enough w/a maxed out old 70s Marshall head, through 4 x 12 Celestion 90s. I run this into a Beano boost, to get my Blackmore tones. I also have an old Analogman Arbiter Fuzz Face w/Germanium transistor, for my Clapton Cream sounds. Analogman just makes the pedals sound great. 808 silver mod! July 23, 2008 Reviewer: Pierce�Campbell from Prospect,�CT�United States   I love the sound of this pedal with the silver mod! I have the Ibanez 808 mod pedal and like that too, but wanted something with less midrange and the silver does the trick. I play mostly jazz and this pedal for the modern jazz repetoire adds a great texture, nice distortion while maintaining a round tone,ie less effected as advertised. It's also a great bang for the buck. You won't be dissapointed. It's also one of two pedals recommended by Mike when you get on the KOT waiting list and I can see why. Boss SD-1/808/Silver/PP Level. June 3, 2008 Reviewer: Mikey from MIDDLETOWN,�NY�United States   This thing sounds and reacts like nothing I've heard or used before!  Very smooth sounding and extremely versatile.  Clarity at whisper volumes, of the pedal or amp, and same for full-out settings!!  I've used it with different amps, different guitars (P-90s and 'single-coils' only), different effects settings (slight dirt, pseudo-fuzz, and the clean-boost - WHOA!!!)  The tone control has a nice wide, smooth USABLE range (a result of the Silver Option, I guess?).  The gain control is toneful and I don't lose the lows.  My main amp is a Vibrolux Reverb which is known for it's upper-bass/lower-mid 'hump' and the amp's character stays very true.  All this with the level control in or out.  I also like the BOSS pedals over the others. . . easy battery swap, more durable & those switches rarely 'fry'. Boss SD-1/808 Silver January 14, 2008 Reviewer: Miles from Murfreesboro, TN United States   great sounding pedal, just blows regular tube screamers out of the water in terms of tone and transparency. sounds great on the clean channel and it really tidies up my V32's lead channel (with the analogman logo, sunface symbol, and a kickin' green LED, it looks pretty cool too). As the other review said it doesn't have a lot of gain, but that's exactly what i was looking for. If your looking for a sweet more transparent tube screamer then look no further (Go for the Silver Mod!), and 125 bucks is a sweet deal for such a great pedal. Was this review helpful to you?

Boss SD-1/808/Silver December 26, 2006 Reviewer: Luc Gravely from Kernersville, NC United States   I had previously owned the SD-1/808/Brown and really enjoyed it for a while.  Then The midrange "hump" started to get on my nerves.... just to pronounced for anything other than leads.  So I sold it and bought  a stock SD-1. I enjoyed the flater response of the stock pedal, but it really had no character or mojo.  So when I saw the Silver mod option and push pull option, I gave it another try. Let me tell you this pedal is what I was looking for! It does leads great, and I use it for my rhythm overdrive religiously.  It has really become part of my sound. It's clean and transparent, and the midrange hump has been taken care of by the silver mod. I will never be parted with this pedal, and would buy another in a heart beat if was stolen.  I love the Green LED too.  the only thing is that I wish it had a little more volume/gain to get just a little louder.
