Beano Boost requires optional power jack in order to use any power supply. Power jack is optional because it works and sounds best with a battery. If you get the power jack option, then we can also sell you a nice quiet power supply for it. No reverse polarity issues on the power jack, normal isolated 9V boss type will work. We don't just add a power jack, as that would be pretty noisy, we also add power filtering circuitry to the power jack connection to reduce power supply noise. Please use only an ISOLATED power supply with these pedals, sharing power can cause noise and other issues.
The optional
on/off volume pot allows disconnecting the battery by turning the volume all the way down. Then you can leave the pedal in your pedalboard without having to worry about unplugging the input cable to keep the battery from draining. This is not available on the Mini Beano Boost as it does not use a battery.
New for 2013! MINI BEANO BOOST
I am not a fan of tiny pedals as I have human size feet, but some people really like them. They are also great when using loop-based switchers. So Analog Alex built up some Mini Beano Boosts
for a customer request. No room for a battery but they work fine on a good power supply.
Also the ON/OFF volume pot is not available for the mini as there is no battery to save by turning it off.
We are charging a little more than the normal Beano Boost with power jack, as it takes quite a bit of delicate labor, and only certain transistors will fit.
 
NEW FOR 2025 - Silicon Beano Boost
The Chase Bliss Brothers Analog Man includes something like a silicon version of the Beano Boost
along with our King of Tone overdrive circuits.
It was inspired by a transistor we found in Tokyo while making a video of our collaboration.
This inspired me back, to make a silicon Beano Boost.

In 2025, we found some Silicon PNP Motorola transistors from 1980 with great specs for this pedal.
We built some up and got excellent reviews, one customer stating that he liked it much more than his old
NKT275 Beano Boost! They sound great, have low noise, and most importantly, don't change tone when it gets hot or cold.
Almost all Germanium transistors (and diodes) will get dull sounding at higher room temperatures, or when in the
hot sun. So if you play outside or in the heat, the silicons are recommended.
The sound of the silicon Beano Boost is a bit more open, and clearer, with a bit less of the "cocked wah"
sounds. But they are hard to tell apart in a blind AB test. Check out the video above, the Mini Beano Boost is using a rare NOS Mullard transistor, so it's hard for any pedal to get close to that, but the silicon does.
"I checked out the silicon beano and it's a winner. It sounds so much
better than my old NKT275 Beano that you made. It's not even close. I lined up a
naga viper and the new beano, and matched the volume and settings to how
I set the nkt275 with a vu meter.
Then
I tried them all, and like I said, not even close. People need to know
that silicon is safe. I figured I'd like it well enough that what I
missed would be a toss-up, but no, I'm thinking about selling my once
prized NKT Beano."
