5 of 5 Very Pro April 7, 2013
Reviewer: Nick from Brunswick West, Victoria Australia
I'm a hard working touring/recording musician with quality gear and I've tired every distortion I could get my hands on over the years. I wanted a tight, smooth, harmonically open lead sound, as close to my old JCM800 on full crank as I could get, and the Analogman DS-1 Pro Midrange does it for me. The harsh fizzy hi end is gone, this pedal is warmer, fuller, more dynamic and smoother than the stock Boss. The mid control makes it very versatile with a wide range of useful sounds. It can sound as scooped as stock, or dial in more vocal mids to cut through the band. I also have the Keeley SEM/Ultra, a MIT and the original MIJ DS-1, but Analogman is the most natural sounding, and the only version that truly preserves the tone of my guitars. The Keeley sounds good at low volume, but doesn't cut at a gig, too flubby, scooped, too 'tweed' a sound. The MIJ is quite good, but the Analogman improves on it in all the ways you want. Couldn't ask for more.

5 of 5 My DS-1 now rocks January 5, 2013

This mod took my DS-1 from a barely useable Distortion to a world class distortion.
I seriously could not use my DS-1 before this mod, and now can use it anytime on any rig, live or recording. This is a Great deal!
This is as good or better than the OCD, SD-9, rats, Plimsouls, etc...
Great work Mike

5 of 5 Good smooth distortion August 29, 2009
Reviewer: Steven Plaxco from San Juan, PR Puerto Rico
This is not a DS1 anymore. Its very smooth, and solid. Its the crunch i wanted from my Les Paul, and at low distortion can get a nice bluesy crunch. I use it as a boost for leads with my TS9 being on for rhythms and smooths out the distortion.
I chose this over keeley. I have both, and honestly  the keeley won out at first. My wife and friends let me know that the clink clink sounds (from the keeley) were too much as it is a LOUD pedal so I tried the same thing with this one, taking it from a rhythm pedal to a lead boost. I thought it was good, but not golden, but got so many comments from other guitar players, bands and our friends that whatever I was doing sounded great. And i thought i was great all along!
It means something when your other guitar player you play with all the time looks at you across the room and mouths wow when you click on a lead when he's heard the same lead forever!
Only change would be AM MAXON OD9/SD9 and/or the KOT

5 of 5 pro/ midrange mod February 15, 2009
Reviewer: Zoogma from hamilton,GAUnited States
highly recommended...this pedal is just awesome. my primary disto pedal was a keeley rat and before that it was an analog mike sd-9 midrange...now this thing is exactly what i wanted, with every bit of tweaking that can equal whatever sound your looking for, and if not then get some lessons because thats probably the reason why. This pedal is a piece before the mod, but this is a drastically different and upgraded pedal pedal, but it wont make you sound like god unless you have some chops, but nothing will for that matter         (what disto pedal was god using on the 77' live album?)///anyway thanks mike, your my overdrive go-to guy and also really nice as well.
