This toggle allows you to switch modes (Overdrive, Distortion, Clean Boost) on the "Red" side of the pedal without having to take it apart. Changes on the fly - on the side you would most often make changes on - This feature is so convienent and easy to use that it should be standard - I think it encourages experimentation and fine tuning and use of the available features/tones which may otherwise not get used - I use the switch when I change guitars from Single coil to Humbuckers
